Ten convicted of digital abuse targeting Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for perpetrating the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of spreading fabrications regarding her gender identity and sexuality, in addition to making defamatory statements about the husband and wife's significant age difference.
The court issued suspended jail terms of as much as eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A longstanding false narrative alleging that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the US against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has also voiced analogous false narratives about the first lady's biological sex.
Their legal filing alleges that Owens disregarded any factual proof contradicting her allegations opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her show and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron first met her future husband when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The two tied the knot in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
